Artist Bio

Dawn Siler is an abstract artist who lives and works in Irving, Texas.  A native of Philadelphia, PA her colorful paintings are a continuation of her personal interest in meditation and the unconscious mind.  Having studied at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where she concentrated on video and music production, her sense of space and visual awareness broadened.  A diverse career followed, but painting–a love that was largely self-learned–became Siler’s outlet for intellectual and creative self-expression.  Her paintings demonstrate a kind of automatic writing.  Inspired by the work of Lee Krasner, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Jackson Pollock, her work is closely tied to the spiritual in art.  Color, line, layers, drawn into patterning, and a floral palette saturates the canvas.  Intensity, rhythm and improvisation abound.  Her work possesses a raw unfiltered sensibility that speaks loudly, clearly and expressively.  Ever evolving, Siler’s bold and colorful compositions are visual poetry, weaving tales of universal and spiritual elements; constructs on her life’s journey.

Artist Statement

I’ve been painting for over 25 years and am largely self-taught.  I discovered so many things about myself during those pivotal creative moments.  I became self-aware and found my authentic artistic voice.  I also figured out that I love color, design and the simplicity of the black and white drawing or painting.  I am constantly in a state of creative manifestation.  I can’t turn it off.  My processes are my moving meditations of the soul.  The objects that we create, the objects we live with should bring us fulfillment; speaking to us always on a spiritual level.  The brilliant colors and overall energy in my work reaffirm my own psychological and mystical truths.  What’s my ultimate goal?  Simply put, create, create, create vibrant paintings & objects that bring people peace, tranquility, and bliss.

Dear Dawn, I am your mother's first cousin on the Blount side of the family. Your Grandmother Elsie was my Dad's (Harry) eldest sister. Your work is spiritually intriguing. Your rendering of Ganesh immediately stood out to me as I, too, relate to him as that aspect of the Creator that removes obstacles. "Dreaming of the Next Voyage" resonated, because of my love of travel in this world and of my anticipation of adventures in other dimensions. All of your work is full of wonder! I wish I knew sooner about your work, but I am sending out your website to family, friends, and other artists. And I will purchase a print or original. Your cousin, Brenda Blount Saddler
